SEO Strategist – Part Time
This is a part-time contract position, requiring some availability during normal business hours. The total number of hours worked each week will vary, but an anticipated range is between 10-20 hours per week. Compensation will be discussed based on experience and the scope of the project/contract terms.
We are seeking a highly analytical and results-driven SEO Strategist to enhance our clients’ organic search performance and drive measurable growth in an evolving search landscape, including the rising influence of Large Language Models (LLMs).
As our SEO Strategist, you will be the architect and the builder of our clients’ organic search success. You’ll be responsible for developing comprehensive SEO strategies that not only cater to traditional search engines but also optimize content for comprehension and utilization by AI-powered systems like Google’s AI Overviews and other LLM-driven search experiences. You will then meticulously execute these strategies across all facets of SEO – from technical optimizations to content strategy, entity optimization, and link building. If you thrive on analyzing complex data, staying ahead of algorithm changes and the advancements in AI, and seeing your strategies translate directly into increased organic traffic and valuable visibility in AI-generated search results, we want to hear from you.
Responsibilities
- Develop and evolve comprehensive SEO strategies: Create data-driven SEO roadmaps and initiatives tailored to client goals, covering technical SEO, on-page optimization, content strategy, off-page tactics, and specialized optimization for Large Language Models (LLMs).
- Conduct in-depth SEO audits and analysis: Perform detailed technical SEO audits (crawlability, indexability, Core Web Vitals), content gap analysis, keyword research, competitor analysis, and assess content’s suitability for LLM understanding to identify opportunities and challenges.
- Execute tactical SEO implementations: Roll up your sleeves to implement on-page optimizations (meta tags, headings, schema markup), provide content briefs for SEO-friendly and LLM-optimized content creation (focusing on clarity, factual accuracy, context, and entity salience), and manage technical SEO fixes in collaboration with development teams.
- Manage and optimize content performance for traditional and AI search: Partner with content creators to ensure content is optimized for search intent, user experience, keyword targeting, and structured in a way that is easily consumable and synthesizable by LLMs (e.g., clear definitions, Q&A formats, strong internal linking for topical authority).
- Develop and execute link-building and authority strategies: Identify and pursue high-quality, relevant backlink opportunities to improve domain authority and search rankings, recognizing how authority and trustworthiness influence LLM citations and references.
- Monitor, analyze, and report on SEO performance, including LLM visibility: Utilize tools like Google Analytics (GA4), Google Search Console, SEMrush, Ahrefs, and Screaming Frog to track KPIs (organic traffic, keyword rankings, conversion rates, brand mentions/citations in AI outputs), identify trends, and provide comprehensive reports with actionable insights to clients.
- Stay ahead of algorithm updates, AI advancements, and industry trends: Continuously research and adapt strategies to evolving search engine algorithms, the proliferation of AI in search, and emerging best practices for optimizing content for LLMs.
- Collaborate cross-functionally: Work closely with content, paid media, development, and client service teams to ensure SEO efforts are integrated and contribute to overall marketing objectives, ensuring a holistic approach to digital visibility across all search modalities.
- Provide expert recommendations: Advise clients and internal teams on SEO best practices, potential risks, and strategic opportunities, particularly concerning the impact of generative AI on search and content discovery.
Qualifications
- 5-7 years of hands-on experience in SEO strategy and execution, with a proven track record of driving significant organic traffic and conversion growth, preferably within an agency environment.
- Deep expertise across all pillars of SEO: Technical SEO (site audits, crawl budget, Core Web Vitals), On-page SEO, Content SEO, and Off-page SEO (link building).
- Demonstrated understanding and practical experience in optimizing content for Large Language Models (LLMs) and AI-driven search experiences (e.g., structuring content for clarity and direct answers, enhancing factual accuracy and authority, entity optimization, conversational content formats).
- Proficiency with industry-standard SEO tools: Google Analytics (GA4), Google Search Console, SEMrush, Ahrefs, Screaming Frog, Moz, etc.
- Strong analytical skills: Ability to interpret complex data, draw actionable insights, and translate technical jargon into clear, client-friendly recommendations, including insights related to AI-generated search outputs.
- Experience with various CMS platforms (e.g., WordPress, Shopify, HubSpot) and understanding of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript as they relate to SEO.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex strategies and performance results effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Proactive problem-solver with a keen eye for detail and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, or a related field is preferred.
